Northern Bites featured on WMTW8 News

Robot Soccer Dogs Headed To World Championships [WMTW.com]

Though they were only at our event for a short time, it was great to see a state TV channel come to our scrimmage. Plus–this article included a follow-up to our competition in Atlanta! Rock on, WMTW.

Northern Bites finishes 2-2 @ US Open 2006

Here are the scores as I received them 1000 miles away:

Microsoft Hellhounds 6 - Northern Bites 0
UT Austin Villa 5 - Northern Bites 0
Northern Bites 2 - Brown Demonstra Dogs 0
Northern Bites 2 - Brown Pound 1

Game replay, footage, more in-depth analysis later this week. For now, we allow our non-robotic lives to take over for a while.

Northern Bites vs. Microsoft Hellhounds, 0-6

After a glorious loss, we are ready to regroup, reboot, and take on our next opponents, tomorrow @ 10:00AM.

All things considered, not a bad loss to the legendary Bill Gates. (Him, a multi-billionaire. Us, not so much.)

Live Blogging: Atlanta Prep

We’ve now been in Atlanta for just about 24 hours. We’ve spent all day (and expect to spend all night) acclimatting to a new space (re-calibrating vision and motion) and coding an entirely new goalie. Rock on! First game tomorrow against the world-champion German team, 11:00AM.

Live Blogging: Enroute to Atlanta

6:53 PM: So we’ve made it–dogs and laptops and all–to Boston Logan Airport to wait for three hours because of delays in Atlanta. Apparently, there was a suspicious package found in Atlanta, to which the authorities responded to with undoubtedly some sort of robot. I only hope that it was kind enough to play a rough form of soccer after its official business was finished.

Next Day… Ok that didn’t really work out–but we’re at the venue now-picture soon!

Northern Bites in Portland Press Herald

Programmers get their kicks Portland Press Herald, 04/18/06.

Three pictures, front page above the fold in the Local & State section–Great article!

Apparently, we were also on TV last night on WMTW 8 last night… did anyone catch it?

kick

Our main kick is looking better- not that it could have looked any worse easily. With one front leg coming back and one going forward, in addition to really getting a legitimate push off the back legs, we have a good amount more power. The back kick works sometimes thanks to the help Murch and Jesse provided, but is not easy to say the least. It doesn’t help that the dog keeps on dying mid-kick for no apparent reason.

WP 2.0.2

Upgraded to WordPress 2.0.2. Fixed odd font size issue. Atlanta Three (!) Days away.

Northern Bites in The Times Record

Robo dogs don’t exactly ‘bend it like Beckahm,’ but they get the job done - The Times Record 04/17/06.

My favorite line: “The thing is, robot dog soccer is like a regular soccer game in slo-mo. Soccer on Ambien.” We are the lead picture in the ‘news’ section also. Nice work, RoboCuppers!

Exhibition: Success

Really great turn out, and our dogs scrimmaged super well. Blue team bested Red Team 5-2.
